Overview:

You won’t find the iconic Japanese blue curtains or the stoic sushi master at Raw. Instead, this trendy Apgujeong restaurant favors imagination over tradition. In an area where sushi joints are a dime a dozen - only coffee shops rival them in concentration- Raw stands out with big flavor, clever rolls, remarkable fresh fish and exceptionally reasonable, if not cheap, prices. Lime green and purple hues dominate the interior, while neck high room dividers partition off the second story space. Shredded fake crab is a staple of most rolls along with eel and tuna. Layers of sauces, slices of fresh fish, sprinkled with roe, binto flakes, or deep fried panko crumbs; the liveliness takes place up top, a treat for both eyes and taste buds. Non-fish friendly eaters fear not, Raw not only caters to veggies- cucumber or avocado maki are prepared without the bat of an eyelid- but also offers rolls sans raw fish.
