As a freelance restaurant reviewer, I spend a good deal of time around food. While my editors are pleased to publish my critiques of Seoul’s blossoming restaurant scene-there’s more to this city than kimchee, not one was interested in my musings on food trends, or recipes. I needed a space for all that left over information eating away at my brian. You try to get through a yoga class puzzled by the ingredients in taka yaki, or obsessing over the latest imported chocolates at Muji. I’m telling you, impossible!
In this age of unfounded selfimportance I created Maryeats, a website devoted to my experiences with food. What goes into my mouth, my meals, my head and my shopping bag. I’m sure my other obsessions will pop up from time to time: travel, the ballet, the New York Times Style section, and luxury handbags. All pertaining to food, aside from the hand bag bit, although, the Fendi baguette? Come on. I hope that through my culinary adventures -and disasters- you’ll gain something, at least a laugh at my expense.
On the website you’ll find a restaurant guide to Seoul, the city that is currently my home, as well as pictures and recipes of what I’ve been cooking. At the end of the year I’ll be moving back to Seattle, where I will reinvent my self as a culinary student at the Seattle Culinary Academy (this is where I’m sure you’ll get a pretty good laugh. Chef whites are not my best look. Their boxy fit does nothing for my figure).
If you’d like to contact me you can email me at maryeats@gmail.com.

Hi Mary, Your website is so cool. Are you still in Seoul? My parents currently live near Seoul (Incheon), and my dad religiously eats oatmeal every morning. He makes me bring the big Quaker Oats Costco packs whenever I visit them. Is there a place in Seoul that sells quick oats? Thanks, Debby
