I’ve always heard negative comments about filipino style cooking, but what you’ve shown looks delicious and it’s cheap too. Seems as though I ought to start trying filipino food, the last territory, (for me) so to say.

Top story, thanks Mary. Now I’m with gus, above. I have to admit I used to hold that the sheer lack of Filipino restaurants in Melbourne (for example) was evidence enough of the frightful nature of Filipino food. What would I know? That gear looks really good.

The Lumpia is great for anyone fiending for a fried wrapper stuffed with the kitchen sink. The thing was filled with chicken, dried and fresh shrimp, pork and maybe even some beef amongst a garden of veg, top shelf.

*my father in law sent me this email concerning the video.
Enjoyed the video–just like being there! I remember the lumpia and adobo from my Navy days back in the 60’s. In those days, every large ship had Filipino Stewards, who cooked the Captain’s food (the rest of us, including
lower-ranking officers, ate in the separate officer and enlisted “mess decks.”). I was lucky enough to work closely with the Captain, and if there were leftovers the Steward would give me first shot at them. Outstanding
food, and closer to Western tastes than some of the more exotic asian varieties.

mary,
i’m a newbie here. i must say, your food blog is amazing!
i was intrigued by this particular entry because i am filipino born in the philippines but lived more than half of my life in the US. it’s great that you are open minded when it comes to filipino food. sometimes our food tends to be greasy but i think the best way to describe it is… it’s slowcooked with tender loving passion.
ironically, i lived in an area called koreatown here in los angeles, was going out with a korean guy for 6 years and i am so much familiar with their culture. i am hooked to korean food (galbi, soon tofu gook and bibimbap are so far my favorites) and i have to have my daily dose of korean drama( shipped all the way from korea)which were influenced by my EX mother in law.
i am so fascinated by your blogs because though i am not korean, i feel like i am pretty much mericanized, blended with filipino blood, i have grown to embrace korean food and its culture (eventhough, the traditionalist korean people have not embraced me - i’d still give them free hugs =P). someday, i really want to travel or maybe do some charity work in south korea. so i can get the close glimpse of what it’s like to taste everything and live the korean way.
by the way, where do you come from if you don’t mind me asking? but if it’s too personal, i totally respect that.
well, keep up the good work and i, i will keep reading!
God bless and stay safe and healthy!
